Lies

By Clancy James

In this world of shades of grey
No black, no white, it's hard to say
If anyone can save the day,
From the dark within ourselves.

Heroes fight to save the weak,
Protecting those that villians seek,
But no one ever seems to speak,
Of what lies in our hearts.

Criminals are put in jail,
Our justice never seems to fail,
But on and on the children wail,
And suffer in the dark.

We punish those who wield the gun,
Rejoicing at the good we've done,
The fault though lies in everyone,
But why don't people see?

So really what can heroes do,
When villians they are me and you,
Humanity is corrupt too,
Perhaps they have no use?

Heroes give us hope in life,
That humankind can end the strife,
But in a world where sorrow's rife,
This hope is fraught with lies.
